The case of missing child Joshlin Smith has continued to send shock waves across the country with every new detail revealed. Taking to the stand, accused turned-witness Lourencia Lombaard alleges that the child’s mother sold her to a sangoma for R20k.
The 20th of February 2025 marks a memorable day in South Africa as news of the case of missing child Joshlin made national headlines. Her mother, Kelly Smith reported the six-year-old when she discovered that Joshlin, who had been left in the care of Kelly’s boyfriend Jacquen Appolis was not in their Saldanha Bay home.
However, as the investigation has developed, more and more horrific details have been uncovered and revealed and has left the country in shock and wondering what’s to come. The case is currently being heard in the Western Cape High Court, with proceedings taking place at the Saldanha Bay multi-purpose centre due to the high level of community interest in the case.
Lourentia, who is now a state witness was initially charged alongside Joslin’s mother Kelly, Jacquin and Steveno Dumaizio has taken the stand to reveal her account of what happened to Joshlin.

In her testimony, not only did Lourentia reveal that she witnessed Kelly sell Joshlin to an unnamed sangoma for R20K, but she also revealed that four days after the incident, she met with Kelly at her shack in Middelpos and asked for her share of hush money from the R20k.
Furthermore, Lourentia told the court that the people who took Joslin wanted to use her eyes and skin, possibly for witchcraft purposes.
