Zero national team call ups for Kaizer Chiefs- fans blame a Hugo Broos agenda

After receiving a total of zero call ups for the recently announced Bafana Bafana squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, Kaizer Chiefs fans are now convinced more than ever that head coach Hugo Broos has a vendetta against their club.

Head coach Hugo Broos and the Bafana Bafana squad are the current talk of the town in South Africa’s football world as fans of the sport debrief about their opinions regarding the 23-man squad named by coach Broos for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. As expected, there are passionate opinions about who should and shouldn’t have been named, as well as those believed to have been snubbed by the selection.

This comes after coach Hugo submitted a preliminary list containing 37 players last week, which he has now cut down to the required 23. The full team is as follows:

GOALKEEPERS

Romwen Williams [Mamelodi Sundowns], Ricardo Goss [SuperSport United], Sipho Chaine [Orlando Pirates].

DEFENDERS

Sydney Mobbie [SuperSport United], Khulumani Ndamane [TS Galaxy], Thabo Moloisane [Stellenbosch FC], Nkosinathi Sibisi [Orlando Pirates]. Aubrey Modiba [Mamelodi Sundowns], Siyabonga Ngezana [FCSB FC], Khuliso Mudau [Mamelodi Sundowns],Fawaaz Basadien [Stellenbosch FC].

MIDFIELDERS

Teboho Mokoena [Mamelodi Sundowns], Jayden Adams [Mamelodi Sundowns], Bathusi Aubaas [Mamelodi Sundowns], Thalente Mbatha [Orlando Pirates].

FORWARDS

Oswin Appollis [Polokwane City], Iqraam Rayners [Mamelodi Sundowns], Patrick Maswanganyi [Orlando Pirates], Relebohile Mofokeng [Orlando Pirates], Elias Mokwana [ES Tunis], Lyle Foster [Burnley FC], Percy Tau [Qatar SC], Thapelo Morena [Mamelodi Sundowns].

In this extensive list of players, none were chosen from Soweto Giants Kaizer Chiefs, and as expected, fans have expressed deep disappointment and frustration towards coach Hugo as they believe that the decision to not include their players was encouraged by an agenda that they believe he has against their club.

According to these fans, players such as Thabo Cele and Reeve Fosler were snubbed purely because of the coach’s personal feelings, rather than their capabilities and potential on the field. These fans single out players such as Polokwane City’s Oswin Appolis and Supersport United’s Nyiko Mobbie as coach Huso’s favourite players who were called up due to favouritism instead of merit.

This agenda that Hugo Broos has against @KaizerChiefs is now getting ridiculous , how can he say he’ll select Chiefs players when the team is doing well but focus on individual performance when he select players from other PSL team ? Supersports is not – pic.twitter.com/jaHA9Pfbra

I think the coach has a problem with Chiefs, you cant tell me Mobbie is better than Frosler, Mudau compete with Morena for the right back position at Sundowns but he select them both. Cele deserves a look in but he is ignored.. He has a problem with Chiefs.

Addressing these concerns, Hugo Broos revealed that there are currently no players at Kaizer Chiefs that he believes are playing at a standard that warranted a call up. He clarifies that when the team and its players perform better, then he will call them up for national team duties.

“When the team will be better, or when players will be better, surely, surely I will call up the players from Chiefs. But for the moment I don’t think I have to call them.”
