The passing of Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule changed the leadership of the Crown Gospel Awards evening, but this change seems to have led to a decline in planning quality.
November marked the first time that the event was held without Zanele Mbokazi in attendance. This comes after the former Ukhozi FM presenter lost her battle with lung cancer, leading to her passing in August last year.
Following her passing, this saw a shift in leadership, which resulted in the fact that the show continued to go on as planned – this time, they changed their logo in honour of her legacy.
With the glitz and glam living up to the expectation, it has now been revealed that things are not always as they seem.
The news publication Sunday World recently reported that the evening’s award winners, performers, as well as service providers have yet to receive the money owed to them by the organisers of the awards evening.
According to the above-mentioned publication, many of these winners were originally supposed to have been paid R10 000 by December, but as it stands, they have only received their trophies.
One person who both won an award as well as performed at the awards ceremony said: “I’ve been waiting for three months. And I have not received a cent. There is not even communication from the team, we’re just in the dark. This is very sad because the event is about us, gospel artists being celebrated. But we are the last ones to receive our winnings. Surely this cannot be fair.”
Meanwhile, it has further been revealed that Bishop Nkambule, who took over his wife’s role, has disappeared, but after being threatened to be exposed by artists, he partially paid some people.
He, however, has not yet commented on the matter.
