Why SA’s fitness world cannot stop raving about the Hyrox challenge

Fitness is definitely the new ‘in’ thing, and the Hyrox challenge was the place to be this past weekend as all of South Africa’s biggest gym rats challenged themselves to conquer the difficult feat.

According to their official website, the Hyrox can be described as “An innovative, holistic approach to fitness including running and natural movements combined to a unique indoor fitness competition”. The Hyrox has become the biggest fitness race in the world, originating from Germany and spreading throughout the world to 11 other countries, including South Africa.

As health and fitness continue to be a growing interest across the world, the Hyrox challenge has quickly become the goal to conquer as it puts participants’ bodies through the ultimate test physically. Mzansi’s fitness side of social media is currently buzzing as users debrief and review their experience at the Hyrox in Johannesburg this past weekend.

According to those who attended, it is rare to come across a race that will challenge you more, both physically and mentally. The race involves a 1km run in between eight functional exercises such as ski erg, rowing, sled push and pull, and the much dreaded burpee broad jumps and more. They reveal that despite your fitness level, whether a beginner or a self-proclaimed pro,  you will leave feeling challenged once all is said and done.

It’s fitness race called Hyrox. Basically there are 8 different exercise stations but between each station you run a km. Unfortunately I didn’t win , my time just being posted on the big screen. still a worthwhile experience https://t.co/rdkvVPbfMl pic.twitter.com/k3JpMXLUQt

Attendees have dubbed this experience as worthwhile and encouraged others to take that leap of faith and join in on the journey of health and fitness. Others have hopped on to social media to share the aftermath, revealing the dire state of their bodies.
