While this year’s Superbowl has given Americans lots to talk about, South Africans have been given a reason to celebrate as well.
The Super Bowl is one of America’s biggest sporting events, featuring the final game between two top NFL teams. A major highlight is the halftime show which has hosted performances by famous artists like Michael Jackson, Usher, Rihanna, and Beyoncé.
Taking centre stage at this year’s event was none other than the multi-award winning artist, Kendrick Lamar who with performances alongside acting veteran Samuel L.Jackson gave fans lots to talk about, but for a local South African illustrator, Sibusiso Nkosi, this was the ideal opportunity to showcase his talents to the world.
The talented graphic designer recently impressed the American actor after deciding to sketch several images of some of the highlights of the night.
These pictures were later re-shared by Samuel L. Jackson on social media along with a message of appreciation from the multi-award-winning actor.
In his retweet of Sibusiso’s artwork, he wrote: “You all lift me up. Thank you for sharing your skills. Much love to you.”

As a Kendrick Lamar fan, the 24-year-old told news and entertainment publication Citizen, that this year’s performance was big for him. This encouraged him to wake up in the early hours of the morning and do something so that he could be a part of history.
“I wanted to do something and be a part of this whole moment. I didn’t expect people like Samuel L. Jackson were going to see it and like the work.”
While remains unsure about how the actor heard about his art, he expressed excitement about the prospect of this acknowledgement opening even more doors.
Reflecting on his reaction shortly after hearing about the retweet, he added: “I didn’t even know that Samuel L.Jackson tagged me. Someone sent me a comment saying, ‘Hey dude, Sam Jackson just posted your work’. I was like, ‘nah you’re playing with me’,” he explained.
