Sho Madjozi fires shots at Afriforum and Elon Musk

by Sergio Miller

Social media tensions between South Africa and American President Donald Trump have now filtered through into the entertainment industry.

The amapiano star Maya Wegerif, best known as Sho Madjozi, has now shared some of her thoughts on the topic. Known for producing popular hit songs like John Cena and Shahumba, one rarely gets to see the serious side of the Limpopo-born singer.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the singer has slammed the local civil rights organisation AfriForum for their stance with the South African-born billionaire Elon Musk and US President Donald Trump.

Earlier this week, Donald threatened that he would be cutting all funding sent to South Africa, following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to sign the Land Expropriation Bill. Donald believes that white South Africans are the target of unlawful land confiscations, something the SA government has denied.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that AfriForum CEO Kallie Kriel said his group would ask the U.S. government “to directly punish senior ANC leaders and not the people of South Africa” over land reform.

With Donald and Elon Musk now in close relations with one another, Sho Madjozi has accused the duo and AfriForum of ulterior motives.

Taking to X, she wrote: “Do they not see that Elon is just using them to attack our government for not allowing his Starlink to operate unregulated here, and by Trump who just wants to destroy BRICS (bonus: make his Israeli friends happy)?”

Her opinions, however, have been well received by those entering the comment section.

One person wrote:

It’s a breadth of fresh air btw, to witness a celebrity who thinks critically & has a firm grasp on how geopolitical issues affect domestic policy. The genesis of this whole thing is SA’s ICJ case against Israel, Statlink & EM friendship (&possible promises He made to Benjamin)

Another added:

That’s why my brother who is a EM fan was crying injustice on the Statlink BBBEE requirement. I told him, the rule in SA is that, u want to operate here, u get a BBBEE partner, futhi I wish he could get the most corrupt that’ll chow his money during the ppl with a fork n knife!
