Botshabelo Historical Village

Located in Middelburg, the Botshabelo Historical Village was originally a Christian mission station. Today, it is a historic site that preserves the rich culture and heritage of the Ndebele people.

When at the site, you can tap into the beautiful and interesting Ndebele culture as you explore traditions and gain insight into their dresscode, colourful homesteads, intricate beadwork and interesting way of life.

Bakone-Malapa Open Air Museum

Located in the Limpopo province, the Bakone-Malapa Museum is an archeological site dating all the way back to the 17th century. This open-air museum is a reconstructed village which preserves the way of life of the Northern Sotho people, giving visitors the chance to explore various aspects of culture and tradition.

Be prepared for some demonstrations and to learn more about hut building, wood carving, pottery and thatching. You can also expect excellent storytelling from guides, as well as added insight into the cultural village’s traditional way of life.

Bo-Kaap

Tucked away at the foot of Signal Hill, the iconic and colourful neighbourhood of Bo-Kaap boasts a unique history and culture begging to be explored.

It is the place to be if you would like to delve into the rich, powerful and interesting Cape Malay culture which is known for its food, architecture and festivals. To enhance your journey of cultural learning and exploration, take a walk along the colourful streets, and visit the galleries and museums. Exploring Cape Malay cuisine is also an excellent idea.

Lesedi Cultural Village

Established in 1993, the Lesedi Cultural Village offers a fascinating exploration of Africa’s tribal history intertwined with African hospitality.

Upon visiting the site, you will get a first-hand understanding of the cultural experiences of traditional South African people. Additionally, you will receive insight on different tribes including Xhosa, Ndebele, Zulu, Pedi and Basotho.
