Looking back at some 2024s best live shows and performance

2024 was the year of music for South Africa as we have seen big moves with our artists breaking out internationally and global stars pinning Mzansi as a must-see destination for their shows. Let’s look back at some of the most memorable shows in South Africa this year.

Although the Covid pandemic was a complex and confusing time, it has resulted in a greater appreciation for certain things due to the many restrictions and sudden changes that the period came with.  Since then, artists have prioritised live shows and performances in a way that has become a lost art.

With the continuous growth of our music industry, South Africa rose as the ultimate African destination for a plethora of global stars who have been looking to connect with a broader audience. This article will highlight a few fan favourites that had social media buzzing throughout the year.

Tyla (Homecoming Shows)

We start strong with Mzansi’s upcoming global phenomenon, who returned home in style with two consecutive sold-out shows in Cape Town and Pretoria. Fans could not help but notice how carefree and comfortable she looked on stage as her home crowd made the youngster feel like the superstar she is, and have given her flowers for her impact on pop culture this year.

Busta Rhymes, Jason Derulo and Jill Scott (DSTV Delicious Festival)

The coveted and highly popular DSTV Delicious Festival is an annual event that has been around for about nine years now. This year’s edition of the event catered to the older generations as their headliners were legends of the industry Busta Rhymes, Jason Derulo and Jill Scott. Attendees gushed over the immense stage presence and nostalgic feel of the entire show.

Chris Brown (Breezy Bowl)

This is the most recent and arguably the most historic performance of the list, as we saw Chris Brown fill up the biggest stadium in Africa not once, but twice, in consecutive days. The highly anticipated and controversial still has social media buzzing as attendees reminisce and look back at the unforgettable experience.

Snoh Aleagra and Ayra Starr (Rocking the Daisies)

The popular Rocking the Daises festival has not disappointed when it comes to their headliner and this year was no different as they brought on the soulful Snoh Aleagra and Nigerian princess Ayra Starr to bless the stage with their angelic vocals.
