Tips to take care of your health while travelling for holidays

Holidays are all about exploring new places, indulging in delicious treats, and creating unforgettable memories. However, between long flights, packed schedules, and tempting indulgences, it’s easy to let your health take a back seat.

Staying healthy while travelling doesn’t mean missing out on the fun—it’s about finding balance so you can enjoy every moment to the fullest. These simple tips will help you prioritise your well-being and make your holiday travels feel as good as they look.

The health and wellness publication, Medical News Today states that to stay healthy while travelling, you should get health check-ups, book vaccinations, read travel advice, get travel health insurance, pack a first aid kit, and adjust to the timezone. All this before travelling.

It is also mentioned that you try sticking to a nutritious diet by packing healthy snacks, researching local cuisine, and choosing self-catered accommodations. ”It can be easy to forget to drink enough water while in transit. Visiting hot climates can also increase thirst. Drinking enough water is important for preventing dehydration.”

The above source continues to suggest that in some regions, tap water is not always safe, so factory-sealed bottled water is a safer option. Other safe drinks include canned drinks, hot drinks, pasteurised milk, and alcoholic drinks from sealed bottles or cans, the publication concludes.

To manage jet lag during travel, Everyday Health suggests that you bring an eye mask and travel pillow to limit light exposure during sleep. The publication continues to mention that seeking out the morning sun can help manage jet lag by signalling the brain and body that it’s morning and time to be awake.

Within an hour of waking up, try to get outside to chase sunlight exposure, which has a positive effect on resetting the body’s circadian rhythm, the above source adds.

”Maintaining daily routines, such as reading or meditating first thing upon waking or right before sleeping, can help. Eating meals and snacks at the same times as you typically do can help your body adjust to a new time zone, too.”
