Kgomotso Christopher shares how real life influences her captivating TV roles

by Samantha Mochele

A celebrated South African actress known for her captivating roles in television dramas Kgomotso Christopher, recently engaged with a fan on social media about her approach to acting and whether any of her characters resonate with her real life.

The fan, @katlegomalepane, tagged her in a tweet and expressed curiosity about the challenges of portraying various personas.

Kgomotso graciously responded, shedding light on her acting process and the inspiration behind her memorable performances. She explained that her methods vary from role to role, involving a combination of formal training, research, and real-life observation.

Tapping in is different for each character, different techniques work for each role. Training & drama school comes in handy. People watching , reading & research, meeting people who’ve gone through a similar journey to your character. I also work with acting coaches☺️ https://t.co/XuDSR87j08

However, the question of whether her characters reflect her own life arose when another user, @rolandarmahjay, asked: “I would ask, has there been any instance where a character she played reflected on her real life”

Kgomotso responded, sharing that while some roles may intersect with parts of her personal experience, this isn’t usually the case.

Not always. There are different facets of my real life sometimes. Ie Fatal Seduction, Nandi is a law professor at UCT. I studied at UCT Law but I was a lecturer at Wits. Most of my characters have older kids than I do in real life. But mostly, no reflection☺️ https://t.co/h09nBCuOF1
