Fake tanning products, especially when applied solo at home, often have a chance of going sideways. Even the pros sometimes struggle with patches, streaks and stains.
Here are four ways to fix a fake tan mistake:
1. Bathe it off
Has the golden glow gone awry? Run a bath spiked with oil and soak for half an hour to break down the DHA in the tan and soften streaks. Try Caribbean Cinnamon & Coconut Skin Smoothing Exfolia R94.96, Dis-Chem, which uses jojoba oil to soften, and sugar to exfoliate.
2. Get buff
Use a body scrub or exfoliating mitt to even out patchy areas, and repeat daily until the tan has faded. Skinny Tan Miracle Tan Eraser R399, Takealot, is the quickest way to correct a tanning mishap, dissolving every last trace of tan in a few minutes.
3. Hit the pool
Chlorine helps to break down the ingredients in self-tan, while steam will soften the colour. Try going for a long, leisurely swim, rub yourself dry and follow with a steam to help speed up the fading process.
4. Face facts
Since the skin on your face is thinner than on the body, the tan will naturally fade faster here. If you want to spur things on, sweep REN Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic R429, Takealot, across your skin using a cotton pad to remove dead cells at the surface.
