Mixed reactions from Skeem Saam fans as Pitsi Maputla is replaced

by Samantha Mochele

SABC 1’s popular soapie, Skeem Saam, stunned viewers this week after the sudden recast of the fan-favourite character, Pitsi Maputla. The loved child actor, who had been around in the show, was unexpectedly replaced leading to mixed reactions from fans on social media.

According to Economy24, SABC1 has announced the recast of the character Pitsi Maputla, previously played by Lethabo Thangoane for several years. The role will now be taken over by child actor Lethabo Matsetela, who will debut on 2 September 2024.

Pitsi’s on-screen parents, Thabo “Tbose” Maputl and Mapitsi Maputla welcomed their new baby, Oratile, played by Realeboha Khotle. Viewers will also see the family of four moving and settling into their new home.

Why did @SkeemSaam3 sack Pitsi after so many years of experience?
Lil man was really good at what he does and they just decided to drop him like that pic.twitter.com/8bmkxBMjDA

@SkeemSaam3 is ruthless! They fired a child. We need to call childline and report this abuse.
