The renowned South African singing group the Soweto Gospel Choir is set to captivate local and international fans alike, with their recently released album, History of House.

The album is their first House album alongside the Australian DJ, Groove Terminator and Grammy-winning producer Latroit.

The entertainment publication Sunday World reports that the trio will celebrate the launch of their album by performing a 20-show run of live performances at the Sydney Fringe Festival in September.

Speaking about the collaboration, in an interview with Daily Sun, the choir member Shimmy Jiyane said: “We feel amazing and blessed because our group isn’t just a gospel group, but a versatile group of people, and we allow ourselves to do any genre of music.”

He added that the last time they recorded a single was with DJ Ralph Gum, but said that they were happy about the release of the new album.

“When we were proposed to do this album, we were happy and excited to do it because it’s out of our comfort zone. It is also music for the world and DJs play it everywhere,” he said.

He further explained while they are best known as a gospel group they want to allow themselves to simply be known as artists and do any genre.

“We have to reflect on every genre and make music”

Meanwhile, speaking about what the collaboration means to him, DJ Groove Terminator, real name Simon Lewicki , said: “I remain profoundly grateful for the opportunity to fuse my passion for house music with the choir’s rich heritage, creating something that speaks to the soul and embodies the enduring spirit of unity and joy.”
