Miss SA finalist Onalenna Constantin admits she fumbled the bag

Many were hopeful Onalenna Constantin would walk away with the Miss SA crown on Saturday evening. Alas, it was not meant to be. Her fellow contestant Mia Le Roux was awarded the coveted title.

Onalenna’s supporters were convinced the law student had it in the bag until the nerve-wracking Q&A section. When host Bonang Matheba asked her what some of the changes she would bring to the country, Onalenna started on shaky ground.

When responding to the question, she appeared to be at a loss for words and unsure of herself. Clearly nervous, Ona swallowed her words and continued to stutter. Before she could finish her answer, the buzzer ran out of time.

Admitting defeat, the model took things on the chin and made fun of her attempt during the Q&A. Taking to social media, she thanked her fans and supporters. “If you’re not willing to look like a foolish beginner you cannot be a graceful master,” she wrote.

Miss SA Mia Le Roux’s fan page responded with encouraging words: “Oh our Ona! ‘YOH’ what a woman and what a journey.

“I knew you had something special the moment I saw your entry video, and ever since then you’ve shown growth, determination and constantly raising the bar for yourself! You are a forever inspiration to many, and we LOVEEEE you forever and ever.”

The comments section shared the same sentiment and told Ona not to be too hard on herself.

“Next time you won’t be starting from scratch, you’ll be starting from experience. Proud of you baby girl,” commented an Instagram user.

Another said: “Please come back in 2yrs for real. You still deserve to reign, you still deserve that crown!!! You are still HER!!!”

A superfan shared her mom’s love for Ona, saying: “My mom says you are her daughter that’s how much she loves you.”
