Time Magazine has released its highly anticipated annual World’s Greatest Places list. This exclusive list highlights 100 extraordinary destinations to visit, categorised into either accommodations to stay or locations to visit.

Time Magazine‘s website explains the process of choosing each location, ” To compile the 2024 list, TIME solicited nominations of places—including hotels, cruises, restaurants, attractions, museums, parks, and more—from its international network of correspondents and contributors, as well as through an application process, with an eye toward those offering new and exciting experiences.”

The legendary Magugu house was one of two South African locations that made the 2024 edition of the annual list. The second location is the Grootbos Florilegium in Gansbaai.

The Magugu house, situated in Dunkeld, Johannesburg can be described as not only a retail store but a showroom as well, that is responsible for hosting events such as fashion shows and exhibitions.

According to Time Magazine, “Thebe Magugu, who has collaborated with Dior and shown collections at London and Paris Fashion Weeks, injected fresh confidence in the city with the opening of Magugu House in May. The new retail space and showroom from a designer known for colourful storytelling is located in a 1930s heritage building in the leafy suburb of Dunkeld; it’s his first brick-and-mortar, complete with two micro galleries,”

Serving as one of South Africa’s fashion archives, the Magugu House is an accurate depiction of the versatility of Mzansi fashion.  In October, an exhibition and capsule collection will launch in collaboration with artist Nelson Makamo at the Magugu House.

Owner of Magugu House, renowned fashion designer Thebe Magugu took to his Instagram to share the exciting news with his supporters. “We are proud to announce that Magugu House (@maguguhouse___) has been named in the Time (@time) List of the World’s Greatest Places of 2024,” the designer captioned.

Celebrities and lovers of fashion took to the comments to congratulate the designer for the momentous achievement. Recently, some users questioned why the South African government did not utilise the expertise of designers of a high calibre such as Thebe to assist with the Olympic opening ceremony outfits, as they believe our athletes were given the short end of the stick as far as fashion is concerned.
