
Another one bites the dust as Champions which airs on Mzansi Magic will not be renewed for a second season.
Produced by Tshedza Pictures known for remarkable productions such as The River, Outlaws and Gqeberha, the telenovela will air its last episode in January 2025.
This telenovela with a dream cast that includes Jo-anne Reyneke, Sello Maake ka Ncube, Tumisho Masha, Kwenzo Ngcobo and Kgomotso Christopher among other stars followed Sne Modise (played by Jo-anne Reyneke) as she challenges gender norms and leads her family’s soccer club, Soshanguve Giants F.C.
In a statement issued by Mzansi Magic, and later shared by entertainment commentator Phil Mphela, director of Local Entertainment Channels, Shirley Adonisi said: “Firstly to our cast, Tshedza Pictures, sponsors and advertisers, thank you for you ongoing support for Champions, and your efforts in entertaining our Mzansi Magic viewers.
“Mzansi Magic plays a pivotal role in entertaining viewers during prime time, and we continue to keep up with the latest television trends. We are currently in the development of several new show concepts not limited to telenovelas and fine-tuning our key returning shows to ensure that Mzansi Magic’s prime-time 2025 slots are well-received,” she said.
Champions will continue to air in the next six months, Mzansi Magic said viewers can expect more exciting cameo appearances and a continuation of jaw-dropping and surprising storylines.
