Pitso Mosimane receives honorary doctorate from UJ

Former football player and CAF Champions League-winning coach Pitso Mosimane, has received an honorary doctorate from the University of Johannesburg for his dedication and stellar contribution to the football sport in South Africa and the whole of Africa.

The soccer coach from Kagiso was honoured just a few days before his 60th birthday, which is on the 26th of July.

The honorary doctorate is befitting, considering that Pitso has around 19 major trophies under his belt and the CAF Coach of the Year bragging rights.

Some of his victories as a coach include the Egypt Championship, 3x CAF Super Cup, Nedbank Cup championship and many others.

Sharing the news on their social media pages, the university detailed, “Pitso Mosimane, South Africa’s legendary football coach has received an honorary doctorate from the University of Johannesburg (UJ). This honour recognises his exceptional contributions to the sport and his commitment to excellence and innovation. Mosimane’s coaching career started in 1995. He has coached teams such as Mamelodi Sundowns, SuperSport United, Bafana Bafana, Al Ahly SC in Egypt,  Al Ahli and Abha FC in Saudi Arabia.”

Pointing out community outreach programmes that the coach has embarked on UJ detailed, “In 2022, he founded the Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools, dedicated to developing young soccer talent across Africa  Mosimane’s contributions extend beyond coaching; he is a vocal advocate for African football and has significantly impacted the development of young African players. His leadership and achievements have paved the way for other African coaches and elevated the status of African football on the global stage.”
