Siyabonga Nene, rapper and songwriter, popularly known as Big Zulu reflects on his academic journey where the artist opens up about bullying and struggles that he encountered at school.

In an interview with David Mashabela on the King David Studio podcast, Big Zulu revealed that he used to hate attending school so much that he would skip classes and hide out near a river to avoid the taunting and mockery of his peers.

“I would fetch my school report which had zeros on it,” he said.

The trauma of being made fun of and harassed had a long-lasting effect on him, influencing his views on learning. The artist said that he often gives school supplies, including uniforms, to various schools in his community. “I do this to stop other kids from going through what I had to go through when I was a kid,” he added.
