The Kiffness addresses receiving funds from DSAC after being trolled

by Zintle Mdaka

One of South Africa’s controversial musicians, David Scott better known as The Kiffness had tongues wagging when he was among the 3 962 beneficiaries who were recently listed and publicised by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC).

The musician known to publicly criticise the government for lack of funding and not supporting the artists, received R20 000 in funding during the Covid-19 lockdown.

A tweet from May, resurfaced, where The Kiffness accused the music producer, Ashley ‘Shimza’ Raphala of being an African National Congress (ANC) beneficiary.

Arguing that he has been open about his dealings with DSAC, the Kumama Papa singer responded, “Not the ‘gotcha’ moment you think this is.”

Responding to the tweet, one user said:

The issue with you is that you always act like this government has not benefited you in any way. You are so arrogant to a point where you are separating yourself from the Band smh!

Recently The Kiffness took to his X page to say:

Shout out to every successful South African musician that has succeeded without any help from the government.

So basically all of you!

Meanwhile, sports minister, Gayton McKenzie recently took to his X page to share that the DSAC will share another list of recipients with reasons why they received funding.

The @SportArtsCultur will today release the recipients of funding together with the reasons why the applicants received the funding, we shall also show amounts received. We can’t be constantly told that we are doing nothing for people so we are showing you. Thanks 🙏🏾
