As promised by the newly appointed Sports Minister, Gayton McKenzie; the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture published the list of beneficiaries.

Internet users were shocked to find the legendary musician, Arthur Mafokate and his son Arthur Junior ‘AJ’ Mafokate among the beneficiaries, as each of them received R20 000.

Other musicians found on the long list included gospel singer Bethusile Mcinga, known for his award-winning hit; Ngena Noah, the late Bulelwa Mkutukana who was famous as Zahara and Busiswa Gqulu, known for her hit song, Midnight Starring; all benefitting R20 000 each.

Acting on instructions by Minister, the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture shared a link with the names of beneficiaries on X (formerly Twitter). Captioning the post; “View the Covid-19 Relief Beneficiaries 2020-2021 here.”

The Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader, maintained that publishing the list is not done to shame the artists but for the sake of transparency, following the accusations made against the Department of not funding projects.

There are very good people on that list, well meaning people, @SportArtsCultur has been accused of not funding projects, for the sake of total transparency let’s see the good work people did, it not a shame list, some people got money because they say they help artist, let’s hear https://t.co/si43Kc8qe7
