What should have been a celebratory moment for a young woman, turned into something she most likely will want to forget.

The lady relayed her heartbreaking story on the social media platform TikTok, and netizens rushed to her side to comfort her, offer advice, and share their own experiences.

The distraught woman, who goes by the TikTok handle @bownie_segage explained how her bae ghosted her on the day of their lobola. Lobola is an African custom by which a bridegroom’s family makes a payment in cattle or cash to the bride’s family shortly before the marriage, according to Collins Dictionary.

This is her story: Eagerly anticipating the big moment, she reached out to her man via WhatsApp: “Baby, my uncles are waiting what’s going on… They should have been here by 9:30 am, and it is almost noon.”

He does not reply so her next move is to go old school and phone him. He doesn’t answer her desperate call but replies with a text that changes the day and so too their lives: “Sorry, I changed my mind.”

Her tale of woe has garnered over 680,000 views, almost 30,000 likes and about 2,200 comments.

@Ms Zeey commiserated and added: “It also happened to me, he even made sure I informed my family they were coming that weekend, then boom sana Indoda changed his mind 2 days before, and he never explained himself till today.”

@basani shared what the now disgraced boyfriend should have done: “Didn’t he bring a letter to confirm that they are coming? In my culture, the guy is supposed to give the girl money for groceries to confirm. Can be 2-3k. Sorry. “

@She is Her offered uplifting advice: “God probably saved you from someone who could have ruined you, in everything we give God the glory cause we plan but he decides. I’m so sorry sending you love and strength this too shall pass.”
