Makhosonke Mazibuko, popularly known as Sonke, who captured the hearts of many as a top 3 contestant on Idols SA season 9, was recently seen at the busy food spot Kwa Mai-Mai in Johannesburg.

He was there to witness the three-day auditions for the much-anticipated TV show, Ushuni Womhlaba, which is on the hunt for fresh musical talent.

The musician took a moment to share his career journey and challenges with Daily Sun. Despite his performance on Idols SA in 2013, Sonke’s path in the music industry has not been without obstacles.

“I’ve had bad experiences with record labels. I prefer not to name them as their reputations are also at stake,” admitted Sonke, choosing not to disclose specific names to protect their reputations.

“I feel like I don’t truly belong in South Africa in terms of support, talent, and skills because some things are just too apparent,” he expressed.

Sonke also reflected on his time on Idols SA, noting that the show opened up new perspectives on life that he hadn’t considered before.

However, Sonke remains undeterred and is focused on creating new music. He was also initially hesitant about participating in the auditions held at Kwa Mai-Mai.

“I think I’ll do the auditions online; I wasn’t prepared this time. I usually prepare thoroughly for auditions, whether it’s for music or reality TV shows like Idols. People might think that being well-known gives us an advantage, but that’s not how it works,” he explained.
