Dineo Ranaka on her journey as Diamond on ‘The Masked Singer’

After weeks of captivating audiences with her singing performances on South Africa’s version of The Masked Singer, Diamond’s light has finally come to a dim.

This comes after the character received the least amount of votes this past week, resulting in her having to exit the competition – however, this could not be finalised until fans had a glimpse of who the person was behind the mask.

Under the mask was the popular radio and TV personality, Dineo Ranaka, fondly known as “big sister” by her supporters.

With her journey on the show now being cut short, Dineo spoke to entertainment publication TshisaLIVE, to speak about her journey: “I like to play. My children influenced me to do this, and I thought it would be fun. The audience, the judges and the production are amazing.”

Dineo took to her Instagram page to share her gratitude to The Masked Singer in a post captioned: “Bright like a Diamond she was, the most fun. Thank you for the invite @maskedsinger, super cool.”

In the comment section, Instagram users commented.

One user jokingly said: “You owe us an album.”

Another one said: “Ate and cleaned up the stage with your presence, outfit, moves and voice. Diamond for life.”

While another one said: “I never thought it would be sisi omdala (big sister), but Diamond was one of my favorites, you killed the performances.”

However, this was not a difficult mystery to solve for the show’s panel of four detectives; Somizi Mhlongo, Sithelo Shozi, J’Something and comedian Skhumba; as most of them gave correct guesses to the host Mpho Popps.

After the reveal, they said Dineo’s height, voice and persona gave it away.
