With three honorary degrees behind her back, the woman who was dubbed the Princess of Africa, Yvonne Chaka Chaka is strongly considering getting her head into her books by pursuing a master’s degree.

Last year the soulful singer was conferred with her third honorary doctorate degree from the Tshwane University of Technology. This was in addition to the honorary degrees she received from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2012, and Rhodes University in 2018.

Meanwhile, in December last year, she also graduated with an honours degree in management practices and leadership from the Henley Business School.

Speaking to the news and entertainment publication the Daily Sun, Yvonne shared what her motivation was for pursuing a tertiary education.

“I went back to school because I sit on different boards, and some of them are international. If you have no knowledge, it becomes a mission, and that’s what inspired me to do management practices and leadership,” she explained.

Despite having successfully completed her courses she revealed that the road to getting there was no walk in the park.

“It was terrible. Academic writing was not easy, but I’m glad I did it.”

Yvonne explains that she is strongly considering pursuing her master’s degree but is unsure of how she would cope with the demand given the fact that it’s a 24-month degree at the University of Reading in England.

“You can study here, but there are classes where you must go to England. I need to think about whether I really want to do it. The Honours degree was intense, but apparently, when you’ve done your honours, the master’s degree is slightly easier.”

When it comes to her musical career, Yvonne is keen on adapting to the times and will soon be releasing remixes to some of her hit songs like Makoti and Power of Africa.
