‘From legend to this?’ – Doctor Khumalo joining ANC campaign leaves bitter taste

by Sergio Miller

With the national elections just over twenty days away, it appears that political parties are going above and beyond to impress the South African public in hopes of securing votes.

At the forefront of current affairs is the current ruling party which has been in charge for 30-years since the first democratic elections were held in 1994 – the African National Congress (ANC).

In recent weeks the party’s comrades have been working tooth and nail to make voters happy, some of their “charitable works” included washing peoples clothing, doing house chores and most recently President Cyril Ramaphosa even went as far as to peck kiss some Gogos in the townships.

The most recent stunt however left a bitter taste in the mouths of hundreds of X (formerly twitter) users after former Bafana Bafana football player Doctor Khumalo was spotted campaigning with the party in the streets of Soweto in Johannesburg.

A video posted on the social media platform shows the retired player dancing and singing while having meet and greet sessions in the famous township.

Accompanying him were former Gauteng premier Tokyo Sexwale and provincial secretary TK Nciza.

While Khumalo is a legend in the football world, many were not happy with his political preference.

“From legend to this? No wonder even his former club won’t give him employment,” commented one user.

Shocked by what was seen in the video another commented:

“Willing to taint his legendary name with the ANC.”

A third user asked the question:

“I wonder how much you paid Doc? People who sell their soul’s love money; Doctor should not have involved himself in this.”
