South African deejay and music producer Mandla Mashakeni professionally known as Soa Mattrix disagrees with the rumour that DJ Maphorisa is gatekeeping amapiano.

We have seen DJ Maphorisa making headlines where people claimed that he is gatekeeping amapiano because he does not want other people to be as big as he is.

DJ Maphorisa (born as Themba Sekowe) is one of the most prominent amapiano DJs together with his partner Kabza De small they have made hit songs.

During an interview he had with the publication, TshisaLive, Soa made it clear that DJ Maphorisa is no not one to gatekeep because when he did not get bookings for five months, he called him and stayed with him whilst he helped him to navigate the industry.

He shared with the publication that, “He called me to talk before we worked on music. He introduced me to a lot of people; a lot of promoters and I started getting bookings.”

He also added that DJ Maphorisa taught him the power of collaboration as he was not a person who did a lot of collaborations, “He made me understand you learn a lot. And the business side of things as well.”

Looking at the struggles faced by the amapiano industry, songwriter-singer Sir Trill opened up about how hard the industry is. During an Instagram live, he shared that he does not disapprove of anyone he helped but rather was let down by someone who leaked his unreleased music.

“I just got discouraged because I came in the game with a pure heart. When I got in everyone was quiet, everybody asked for my help, and I helped them. Somebody they trust and love leaked all of my songs. Why? Because I’m quiet, I get the end of it,” he added.
