A video of two Xhosa grannies sitting behind the driver’s seat in a taxi, responding to whether they are going to vote or not made its way to social media, amusing many internet users who shared that their IDs must be hidden.

In the video, the two grannies who are firm believers of the ANC are in conversation with the person who was recording.

Responding to the question on whether they are going to vote, they responded:

“When the voting day comes, we are going to vote, we will vote for ‘Maphosa’ (Cyril Ramaphosa), because he was left in power by Mandela.”

The person taking the video noted that Maphosa is the one who gives them money, with the grannies agreeing.

The grannies further noted, “Even our kids who go and have kids of their own when we haven’t told them to do so get money from him.”

Convinced of their theory, they continued, “This is all Mandela’s work then Maphosa took over from Mandela. ”

The person then asked them if they would listen to other campaigners, to which they responded:

“No! They’ve been coming here trying to get us on their side. We don’t even pay attention to them. We want Mandela. We tell them we are voting for that Mandela who then left Maphosa in power.”

After seeing the video, internet users were left in stitches, with many saying the granny’s IDs must be hidden.

“Yo we must hide their IDs, yo we want change,” said a user.

Another user noted, “Kaloku oMakhulu bona (but the grannies) have their own experience ne ANC and they are satisfied bona. If thina we want change we must do it ourselves niyekeni oMakhulu ne ANC yabo mani (leave the grannies with their ANC). Abese Cute (they are so cute).”

“Baby Boomers with their trait of everlasting loyalty. Into ezazi sebenza efemini iminyaka, zihlala emzini zohlulwe kukufa (the ones who worked in factories for many years, staying in marriages till death do us part). Loyalty over everything,” commented one user.

“Good Makhulu (grannies), I like the fact that they vote regardless, unlike our youth who votes on social media platforms, can our youth learn from our Makhulu’s (grannies),” noted another user.
