A TikTok video shared on the social media platform and later reposted on X (formerly known as Twitter), showing a total of nine different churches next to each other sparked a lot of comments on both platforms with users sharing their views on the video.

The video was taken in the Eastern Cape’s Grahamstown and shared on TikTok by user @tholamathonga, who captioned it:

“A true definition of church street lmao, sifike njani Lana makholwa kodwa (how did we get to this though Christians)?”

In the video, a car driver goes down the street commenting, “This is a church, we are now counting, let’s all count.”

On the fifth church, the user bursts out in laughter adding, “but you Christians are fighting hard.”

Users on TikTok were quick to comment, noting:

“Engabe the municipality yakhona ihlela kanjani kulezindawo weeeeee, kudingeka I Town plan e realistic (how does the municipality structure this, there is a need for a serious town plan).”

“You’ll find that they don’t greet each other uma bengena noma bephuma emasontweni ngoba abasonti ebandleni elilodwa (when they go in and out of church just because they don’t go to the same church)”, noted one user.

On X, social media users shared:

Some of those could easily be converted to community centers where kids or young adults can practice sports ? or even some trades (boiler maker, diesel mechanics, electricians or even plumbing ?). Lately there’s even a need for Fiber installers. We need real community leaders.

More users shared:

This might be the “real church street” but just goes to show how churches have been seen as business schemes… otherwise what other reasons would there possibly be for so many churches of the same religion, who worship the same good, have so many churches. In the same street nogal

One user had other thoughts, commenting:

Now this must be the busiest street on a Sunday…just imagine if those were factories or workshops. The amount of employment in just a single street
