‘Please stop wearing weave with traditional attire’- Ntsiki Mazwai

by Bongiwe Mati

Controversial singer, poet and podcaster Ntsiki Mazwai is popular for sharing her views on matters she strongly believes in, something that often causes a lot of stir on social media platforms.

Ntsiki, who is also a younger sister to award-winning singer Thandiswa Mazwai is a regular commentator on political, social, spiritual and cultural matters.

Recently the Umoya podcaster shared her strong opinion on traditional attire and what not to pair it with.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Ntsiki shared:

“Please stop wearing weaves with traditional attire!! You make the whole thing look so cheap. ”

In true Ntsiki style, she added, “Pls sort out your self-image issues without dragging isintu.”

PLEASE STOP WEARING WEAVES WITH TRADITIONAL ATTIRE!!

YOU MAKE THE WHOLE THING LOOK SO CHEAP

?????????

Pls sort out your self image issues without dragging isintu ????

Social media users had conflicted responses to Ntsiki’s comment with some agreeing with her while others did not understand how people’s choices bothered her.

I think what is cheap is failing to understand that people have a right to choose how they look.

One user who seemed to understand the uWrongo hitmaker had a justifiable explanation to give, commenting:

I hear you…but many traditional things are hybrid now kaMazwai, not justifying, just reality. Once you change one thing from isintu, other things have the right to change too. Also how far back, do we go? It got diluted long time, it all comes back to relevance of the present.

Another user wasn’t happy with Ntsiki’s post, commenting:

Please stop telling black women what to with their bodies ???

— BrownSkinGirl from Gqeberha ? ⛱️? (@Poppy_G_S) April 11, 2024

Some agreed with the statement:

Honestly traditional attire looks soo good with Natural hair ♥️ let’s all be honest !
