M-Net recently did an investigation on the East London stoep that cost R100 million. The investigation was done by the show Carte Blanche, which visited the Eastern Cape themselves.
While doing the documentary Buffalo City’s Price Stoep, which aired on the channel, a scene where they had visited what looked like an abandoned building appeared, which got many internet users entertained.
In the scene, the Carte Blanche team finds themselves inside the building when a guy enters, carrying a bucket. Footage shows them greeting him as he entered and continued to ask if he was living in the building.
The guy replied, “I am washing the cars there.”
They then asked if he slept in the building to which he replied, “No.”
One of the production guys asked, “Is this place dangerous?” The man replied, “Not for me, I am connected with the Phara Pharas (thugs).”
“So, is it dangerous for other people?” asked the production guy.
The man explained that he was shocked to even see them there, he continued to say, “Even that camera you are using there, they are going to take it… Let me go.”
A TikToker with the username @mzicarti shared a screen recording of the scene and shared it on the app. In his caption, he wrote, “All jokes aside, it’s crazy to see how terribly slow our growth is as a city or lack thereof. It’s unfortunate we as communities and private investment are our best chance of saving our Eastern Cape.”
