South African deejay and businesswoman Ntombezinhle Jiyane, professionally known as DJ Zinhle, shared how she met media personality Somizi Mhlongo.

This comes after she shared a video stating that she is celebrating 20 years of being in the industry. In the video, she asked her fans and supporters who they would like to hear about as she has 20 years’ worth of stories about our favourite artists she has met.

One user requested she explain how she met Somizi. Before getting into it, she said, “Let me give you a background that will make sense before going to Somizi.”

“I have always been masculine. I am sure you guys can see my body structure, I have just always looked like this, and it was such a big insecurity for me when I was growing up. I love my body now but when I was in boarding school, it was such a problem. I was teased about it, people said I look like a man,” she added.

She also shared that when she started in the music industry, certain people used to tease her about her body structure.

As she goes back to how she met Somizi, DJ Zinhle explains that when she was in varsity, she stayed at a student residence that was close to the SABC and saw many celebrities as she passed the building.

“I was walking to school, and I saw Somizi with a group of what looked like dancers, now that I think about it, and he immediately turned to me to said, ‘Oh my God wena, wena umuhle, look at your body, what do you do? are you a dancer?'”

She explained that they had a back-and-forth as Somizi kept on asking her what she was doing as he could not believe that she was not doing anything regarding her body.

“Let me tell you, that gave me a different perspective about my body, and it just made me so much more confident. Later in the years, when I officially met Somizi and I could talk to Somizi because we were now peers, I reminded him of the story and he remembered me,” says Zinhle.

She concluded the video by saying that she thanked Somizi because what he did for her was life-changing.
