As the number of days increases for the missing girl, Joshlin Smith, from Saldanha, more people are starting to believe that there is more to the story than what her mother Kelly is revealing.
Despite this, Kelly is eager to prove her innocence, so much so that she is willing to take a lie detector test which has been offered by the Patriotic Alliance leader Gayton Mckenzie.
The disappearance of the six-year-old gained much publicity over the last week. This comes after her mother, Kelly Smith reported her missing last Tuesday after realising that she had been gone since Monday evening around 6 o clock.
Following the occurrence, the face of the grade one pupil from Diazville Primary on the West Coast began circulating all over social media in hopes that someone with information on her disappearance would come forward. While a week has passed already, there has simply been no luck.
According to her mother Kelly, Joshlin skipped school on the day because she was feeling ill. In various reports, Kelly told the media that she then decided to leave her daughter in the care of her boyfriend Jacquin Appollis while she went to work.
She told police that on the day of the disappearance, she made several attempts to get hold of Jacquin who was unreachable, however, Jacquin’s story differed from this and told public news broadcaster eNCA that he was home as usual.
Meanwhile in a Facebook Live interview with Gayton and Kelly, Kelly’s sister revealed the shocking news that could change the entire route of the investigation.
In the interview, Kelly’s sister Mickeyla Daniels, told Gayton that Kelly knows where her daughter is.
She revealed that the two spoke on the phone when Kelly said: “My child is in the squatter camp. Someone wanted to buy her, but Saldanha was ‘too heated.’”
Mickeyla also told Gayton that Kelly informed her about someone willing to buy her daughter for R10 000.
“I feel Kelly knows where her child is. Why is she not looking for her child with the community?” says Mickeyla.
Meanwhile, Kelly dismissed the accusations saying that her sister was trying to make her look bad.
She also added: “If you think I am guilty, then you are making a big mistake. That’s my child. You don’t know how I feel.”
In the light of speculation that Kelly and Jacquin are drug users, she told Gayton: “At this moment, I’m clean. I did use Tik. I’ve been clean for a week, I’m honest”.
