Reasons to invest in a silk press hairstyle

For some women, their hair is like a crown. Nothing can stand between a woman and her hair, not even regular wash days.

Although, a hairstyle that seems to be trending lately is none other than the silk press hairstyle.

L’Oreal Paris defines a silk press as a hairstyling technique that employs a blow-dryer and a flat iron to straighten natural curls without using a chemical relaxer. This procedure results in voluminous, lustrous hair without the discomfort of a heated comb or excessive hair oil. It is ideal for people with oily, kinky, thick, or curly hair.

Doing a silk press takes skill and lots of practice, but you can learn to do it yourself at home through practice and patience.

Washing, blow-drying, and stretching your hair the night before helps start a silk press. This ensures your hair is cool and flat when you finish straightening it, which may make the process faster, says hair experts at Unilever.

EAP Heat highlights the reasons why you should consider investing in a silk press hairstyle:

  •  New look: Although you might love your curly hair, it’s also natural to want different hairstyles sometimes. Luckily, natural hair is flexible and can be styled in many ways!
  • Healthier look: Split ends and damaged hair can be hidden within tight coils and curls. Trimming them before silk pressing promotes healthy hair and growth. To retain hydration and health during the silk press, a professional stylist will wash, deep condition, and moisturise the hair with appropriate serums.
  • Low maintenance: A silk press is easier to take care of than curly hairstyles. Just wrap your hair in a silk scarf when you sleep and enjoy six weeks without washing, conditioning or spending lots of money on protecting your hair.
  • No chemicals: If you want straight hair without using chemicals, a silk press is a way to go. It gives your hair the sleek look you want and keeps it safe from harmful damage caused by chemical treatments.
