South African DJ and record producer Themba Sekowe, popularly known as DJ Maphorisa expressed his concerns about Nigerian DJs speeding their sets when playing amapiano songs in clubs.

The renowned DJ went on a rant on his live to plead with the DJs to lower the songs’ tempos, as speeding the songs was unnecessary. He has always been known to be very vocal about the production of music, in his last social media rant he said that if an artist records using his equipment the song belonged to him. This statement made a lot of X users upset as they claimed that he didn’t want upcoming artists to succeed.

DJ Maphorisa in a live video posted on X(formerly Twitter) of him pleading with Nigerian DJs saying, “Please play piano softer with the tempo, please take it down a little bit; 113, 114, 115 max, that’s fast for us. You can’t be playing Amapiano with 120 BPM. Please, Nigeria DJs, play Amapiano softer and lower the tempo.”
