The late Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane’s father Sylvester Motsoane recently sat down with Dasen Thathiah from local broadcaster eNCA to share how his family was doing since the tragic loss of his only son also noting what he and his wife thought were Tibz’s last words before passing.
Tibz as he was affectionately called was assassinated a year ago, on the 10th of February alongside his friend rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes. This incident occurred outside Wish restaurant, on Durban’s busy Florida road.
The brutal killing of the two young men quickly made its way to social media as cameras outside establishments close to the restaurant captured the act.
A year since the passing, with no arrests or constant updates on the matter, Sylvester recently got a visit from the broadcaster to speak out for the first time.
Chatting to Sylvester who shared that he doesn’t follow his son’s case on the media, the reporter asked him what his thoughts were on how it is being handled by the SAPS, he responded:
“Not a single police has spoken to us until now. Not one, or not once, the only time the police called my wife is when they wanted a PIN number for the phone (when they were trying to unlock his phone), in February, March.”
He continued:
“That’s the only time they when they bothered, they can’t say they don’t have our numbers because they could contact my wife, and our numbers are there. Not once did they say state Motsoane, this is where we are right now. Under obligation, obligated to do so, they didn’t.”
The reporter asked if he made any means to find out how far the case was, to which he responded by saying that he had written a very long e-mail to the commissioner informing him about his unhappiness concerning the handling of his son’s case. He added that he asked for an update on what was happening with regards to the case, but never got a response.
This all happened before his wife passed, almost eight months after his son’s death.

Sylvester also shared how he and his late wife played the incident in their minds and how his son’s death has tortured them, adding:
“There’s one thing that really tortured me. Really, really tortured me for a very long time. I imagine Tebello being shot and not realising he is shot and trying to run away and fell. What was on his mind? That thing tortured me for a very long time, what was in his mind? The mother says I’m sure he was saying mha -whe -mha -whe -mha – whe. They were very close with the mother.”
