Springbok winger Makazole Mapimpi’s former high school Jim Mvabaza Senior Secondary School in the village of Tsholomnqa in Eastern Cape’s Twecu, recently received a face lift worth R1.4 million rands with the keys officially handed over to them.
Building material supplier Bucco Timber City and power tools and accessories supplier Ryobi were among the sponsors responsible for the new school renovation, honouring our rugby legend and creating a platform for many future rugby players to receive better education.
The Springboks player who comes from humble beginnings is an inspiration to many in his community and an icon at his former school. In an interview with Eastern Cape based news paper Daily Dispatch, the rugby player’s former principal Lynette Lulama Nkumana, who has now retired, expresed how proud she was of Makazole, adding that he perservered while growing up in tough situations.
“Mapimpi is now known by people all over the world, as he represents SA on the world stage. I will rest in peace when I die because I know that he never had it easy while growing up, but he persevered and achieved his dreams.”
An event was held to officially hand over the keys to the newly renovated school. In attendance were learners, the public as well as the sponsers responsible for the renovation of the building.
Interviewed by Daily Dispatch Ntombomzi Mapimpi, a member of the school’s SGB expressed her joy sharing that the school was in a very bad state and that it wasn’t conducive for kids.
The current school principal Miami Kolongwana expressed his joy on the huge changes the school has received adding that the new environment will be conducive for kids and will give them enough space for movement.
The school kids who were also interviewed by the above publication shared that their school had no ceiling, roof nor windows. They also told the publication that during rainy days they would be wet as the rain would get to them from the open roof.
