Sunday, 28 January marked the first birthday of Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes after his senseless murder. Many of the rapper’s family, friends and fans took to social media to celebrate his life, including rapper L-Tido, who did so in a controversial way.

Father to kid influencer Kairo Forbes, AKA was shot dead outside a restaurant in Durban alongside his friend and celebrity chef Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane. Police have not yet caught the gunmen.

L-Tido, a close friend of AKA, was seen visiting the slain rapper’s grave on Sunday. The Dlala Ka Yona rapper had also brought along a bottle of Cruz Vodka, a vodka brand AKA had previously collaborated with.

In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter) on L-Tido’s account, the rapper and another man are shown pouring Cruz’s Banana Deluxe flavour on top of AKA’s grave.

L-Tido received quite a few responses under his post, many calling the act “disrespectful.”

One person commented, “A simple ‘happy birthday’ was enough, why pour alcohol on the grave?”

A simple “Happy Birthday” was enough why pour alcohol on the grave?

While another person stated, “L-Tido, I know you loved AKA but this video is giving ‘content.’ Like bro, why would you record yourself talking to a dead person and then post it on social media? And this ‘tradition’ of pouring alcohol on people’s graves… I don’t know man.”

L Todo I know you loved AKA but this video is giving “content”.

Like bro, why would you record yourself talking to a dead person and then post it on social media?

And this “tradition” of pouring alcohol on people’s graves… I don’t know man.
