With South Africa’s economy being nothing short of a rollercoaster, saving some rands can be the best thing to do to provide yourself with financial security. This is what one local woman did when she stuffed her piggy bank with notes accumulating to a whopping R19,000.

The woman – whose user name on TikTok is @rosereemagidimisa – took to the popular app to share that she had been saving money since March of last year. Garnering over 870,000 views and 19,000 likes on TikTok, the viral video sees the woman using a knife to cut open the pink piggy bank.

Cutting it just enough for the money to fall out, rolled-up R10s, R20s, R50s, and even a few R100s and R200s, can be seen strewn on the floor.

Many social media users were in awe of the woman’s ability to save such a great amount of money.

One TikToker commented: “I am too broke to throw a hundred rand in a money box. I’ll need it three days after throwing it in there.”

Another person advised the woman: “This year, put it in an interest-bearing bank account. Your money will make you more money. I love the financial discipline that you are exercising.”

While another TikToker confessed, “Since I took a break from alcohol, I think this is doable. I just need to have this level of discipline in my life.”
