We are currently finding ourselves in the heart of summer. A season associated with being the hottest time of the year.

This means that sleepless nights, and the urge to receive constant refreshments are at the top of the list for many people. There is also a creative spark in the minds of many, as everyone is looking for alternative ways of staying cool in the midst of the scorching heat.

However, when you find yourself bumping into someone using frozen ice-cubes on their face, it is not always safe to assume that this is due to the high temperatures outside, on the contrary, this is a technique used for beauty purposes which improves appearances from the inside out.

Health and wellness publication, Healthline explains that the correct term for this technique is called facial icing. This involves massaging an ice cube or ice roller on critical areas such as the forehead, jaw, cheek, chin and lips and is known to have positive results.

Here is a list of benefits:

Reduces puffy eyes – The American Academy of Ophthalmology states that icing the sacks below your eyes between 15- 20 minutes have positive results in reducing puffiness.

Improves blood circulation – the process of applying ice to your face is also known to improve blood circulation, says Pharm Easy.

Eliminates dark circles – the above mentioned publication explains that this is crucial in removing dark circles. “You can boil some rose water and mix cucumber juice in it. Freeze this mixture and then apply the ice cube to your eye area. However, this remedy does not provide you instant results. You need to repeat this procedure for a few days to see results.

Brightens your complexion – “Icing constricts the blood vessels is your face, which can lessen the appearance of pores and wrinkles and make you look lighter, brighter and more radiant overall,” explains medical publication Cleveland Clinic.
