A clogged drain can be a real hassle, but it doesn’t have to be a headache. By taking some simple, preventative steps, you can keep your drains running smoothly and avoid a major blockage.

Here are some tricks that will save you time, money, and frustration suggested by The Water Institute of Southern Africa (WISA) – a professional body for water and sanitation professionals in the Southern African region:

  • Pour a pot of boiling water down the drain.
  • Pour a mixture of baking soda and vinegar down the drain.
  • Use a plunger to dislodge any clogs.
  • Use a plumber’s snake to break up and remove clogs.
  • Call a plumber if the problem is severe or you can’t fix it yourself.

The Institute of Plumbing South Africa (IOPSA) also gives advice on why regularly cleaning your drains is important for a number of reasons:

  • This helps to prevent clogs and blockages.
  • It keeps your drains running smoothly.
  • It helps to eliminate foul odors.
  • Helps to prevent water damage to your home.
  • Extends the life of your plumbing system.
  • It can save you money in the long run.

In short, regularly cleaning your drains is an essential part of home maintenance. It can save you time, money, and hassle in the long run. By making it a habit, you’ll enjoy peace of mind knowing that your drains are running smoothly and won’t become blocked or backed up. So, grab a plunger and start scrubbing – your drains will thank you!
