Businesswoman Savita Mbuli, the wife of the prominent breakfast host Vuyolwethu Mbuli has penned a heartfelt post as she remembers the legacy of her late husband.

Vuyo, as he preferred, was well known for his bright smile, vibrant personality, and humble spirit that lit up the television screens of millions of South Africans whenever he made his appearance on SABC 2’s breakfast show – Morning Live.

The highly esteemed news presenter sadly passed away in 2013 after suffering a heart attack while watching a rugby match between the Cheetahs and Reds at Bloemfontein Stadium.

It’s been just over a decade after his death, yet Savita remembers the impact that he made as if it happened yesterday.

The mother of two recently visited the gravesite of her late husband, reflecting on his contributions to the people of the Eastern Cape.

“You are a Legend! Truly so! Little did you know the difference you would make to the lives of so many people.

“In the beautiful town of Port Alfred, there was an ugly part not shown in pictures. The other side. Where communities lived on the riverbanks in unsafe informal structures that would be swept away if the tide became too high or during the rainy season. People would come back from work/school homeless.”

Savita revealed that this affected her husband so much that he eventually decided to be the change he wished to see. Vuyo later approached both businesses as well as local government representatives to assist and together they created change.

“Fast Forward. Today there’s a thriving community…in a relatively big township. Bigger than Pimville’s Zone 4 & 5 combined living in decent homes. All because my husband was.”

Today she boasts about her husband’s humanitarian legacy and often reminds their children that this was the impact of their fathers’ efforts.

“A life lived with a purpose. Continue to rest in peace Myenam. Mintirho ya Vulavula .”
