The gospel industry is mourning the loss of one of South Africa’s great musical talents, Dr. Kenny Makweng.
The star passed away recently after brief health complications.
According to a local news publication, The Citizen, Kenny was admitted to the hospital two weeks ago, where he was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after he experienced brain complications that resulted in a stroke.

This past Tuesday his management team released a statement confirming the news that he has sadly passed away.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved gospel icon Kenny Makweng, who passed away after a short illness.
“The family humbly requests the public and media to respect their privacy to deal with this difficult situation. We request that you keep his family, associates, and friends in our prayers,” was how the statement read.
The 54-year-old who hailed from Limpopo was a prominent musician in his province.
He was well known for songs like Ka La Ntate and Lengeloi Laka, and will undoubtedly be remembered for many years to come.
Another statement released by his team KennyMak Productions revealed that a memorial service will be held in his honour this coming Friday, 19 December at the Akasia Community Hall.
As reported by public broadcaster SABC News, a family spokesperson – Advocate Mphafolane Koma – encouraged locals to come out and pay tribute to his life ahead of the funeral that will take place in Mpumalanga on Sunday.
“We are expecting throngs of music lovers and his colleagues in the music industry to come in numbers and we are urging people to come early so that we can start on time and give Dr Makweng the honour that he deserves,” says Koma.
“Then on Sunday, we will have his funeral service at his home in Digwale and from there we will travel to Keerom where he will be then laid to rest,” he added.
