The second season of the late award-winning songstress Zahara’s reality show, Zahara – As I Rise, is set to continue despite the singer’s death.

As per ZiMoja, the Destiny singer (real name Bulelwa Mkutukana) passed on 11 December 2023 at a private Johannesburg hospital due to liver complications. Her fiancé Mpho Xaba was by her side. ZiMoja also reports that Zahara died before completing her deal with the SABC to shoot the second season of the show which was due to air on TV screens this year.

A family member told the publication, “She wanted to shoot the new season and show the lobola celebration and everything. But she became ill. She collapsed on the day of the lobola and things took a turn. But the SABC has approached the family and they have agreed to continue with the show.”

The family member also shared with the above-mentioned publication that the reality series plans to show life before Zahara fell ill, narrate what happened during her illness, and life after her passing.

“The family doesn’t know much about show business but they are getting guidance from people like Vusi Nova who was one of her best friends,” said the family member, who also hopes that Mpho will get a chance to share his side of the story.

“He has been painted out to be a bad guy. If the family could allow him to be part of the show because he is an integral part of her last days, it would be fair to give him a chance to speak about what they had.”
