Mzansi’s pride and joy –Nkosinathi Maphumulo also known as DJ Black Coffee is on a quest to cement his mark in the international entertainment scene as he continues to excel all aspects of his craft.
The 47-year-old was recently ranked as the 25th biggest DJ in the world according to Top 100 DJ poll that was released by British publication – DJ Magazine.
This is an annual poll that is run by DJ Magazine to decide the world’s number one DJ.
The initiative started in 1991 and for the first two years the magazine’s journalists selected their top 100 DJs of the year.
Meanwhile, in 1997, the magazine opened the top 100 list to a public vote which has remained the used format to this day.
This year’s top spot went to David Guetta.
Black Coffee who the publication describes as South Africa’s most famous DJ’ has moved up significantly since the first time his name entered the list in 2017 where he reached 85.
With the Corona pandemic causing major disruptions in 2020 the ambitious DJ dropped as far as 91 on the list, but was able to refocus over the last few years that clinched him a spot in the first quarter of the list.
Last year he became the first African to win a Grammy award for Best Dance/Electronic Album, and he’s still making history, by becoming the first South African to headline a show at Madison Square Garden in New York, the biggest show of his career to date.
