Since releasing a video of his rendition of Tyla’s Grammy-nominated song Water, American actor and singer Trevor Jackson has been ridiculed all over social media. Despite the criticism he received, Tyla showed him nothing but love by giving his performance a high rating.

Popularly known as the actor who played Aaron Jackson on the American TV series Grown-ish, Trevor often posts a few videos on his social media where he takes well-known songs and makes them his own. However, it was his remix of Water that caught the public’s eye.

Social media users – especially on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) – heavily criticised his take on the song due to the facial expressions he delivered with it.

While appearing on the Los Angeles-based radio station, Power 106, Tyla was asked by the hosts what she thought of Trevor’s performance.

Tyla, who was born and raised in Johannesburg, commented, “He was diving in! He’s good.” Speaking about the naysayers, she said, “People are very bad, they are very mean.”

The Getting Late songstress then went on to rate Trevor’s rendition a 12 out of 10. “He was passionate. People are mean. He loved the song, he was feeling it. He must pop off, you know?”

The singer added, “I love the way everyone does it their own way. It’s not so serious. People are too serious.”
