‘Why doesn’t Sundown become our national team,’ asks Somizi

by Bongiwe Mati

Former Idols SA judge, cookbook author and media personality Somizi Mhlongo is famous for his talent and go getter spirit, he is however also known and loved for his personality and sense of humour.

Known for sharing videos on his social media where he either gives advice on social matters, share occurrences in his life, motivate others, put those who have been helpful to him on a pedestal by thanking them or just to share his humorous nature.

The father of one who recently launched a kid’s clothing line called Sompire kids shared a humorous video where he suggested that the Bafana Bafana bosses use Mamelodi Sundowns team as a national squad following their 2-0 victory against Wydad Athletic Club, crowning them African Football League champions.

In a video relaxing outdoors, Living The Dream With Somizi reality TV star shared:

“So, I have an idea that just came to my mind, after realizing I’ve only found out that Sundowns won, whatever championship that they won. It gave me an idea, how about Sundowns becomes the national team. I’m not a Sundowns supporter but it only makes sense. Why can’t Sundowns be team Bafana Bafana?”

He continued adding:

“They play well as a team; they know each other, and they are good, and they are rich. So, tell me if I’m wrong, what do you think guys? I think it’s a brilliant idea. Sundowns becomes the national team. They will play-off when they’re playing locally as Sundowns. When it’s the World Cup season Sundowns still goes as South Africa, because the other one doesn’t work. It doesn’t work, and that’s the only sporting code that doesn’t make sense, because wow.”
