Things to have in your first aid kit

In order to handle small accidents and injuries, it’s crucial to have a fully equipped first aid kit at home.

Keep your first aid kit locked up and out of children’s reach in a cool, dry location.

Additionally, a lot of individuals keep a little first aid kit in their vehicle.

Why you need a first aid kit

A first aid kit is your next best buddy if help is not available because there is never a perfect time to get hurt. You can’t always rely on other people to lend a hand, so be ready.

Unsettling but truthful, you only have a few precious seconds to get the supplies needed to halt the bleeding if your injury results in blood loss. Having a first aid kit handy can give you the extra time you need to call for assistance.

Without a kit, there will be no rapid assistance. Quick action can prevent additional harm, save a life, or both.

The longer you wait to seek care, the more serious your injury may become. Small injuries can turn into huge injuries.  Treatment started right away can lower danger.

According to Red Cross here are things to have in your first aid kit:

  • 2 absorbent compress dressings (5 x 9 inches)
  • 25 adhesive bandages (assorted sizes), also found within our Family First Aid Kit
  • 1 adhesive cloth tape (10 yards x 1 inch)
  • 5 antibiotic ointment packets (approximately 1 gram)
  • 5 antiseptic wipe packets
  • 2 packets of aspirin (81 mg each)
  • 1 emergency blanket
  • 1 breathing barrier (with one-way valve)
  • 1 instant cold compress
  • 2 pair of nonlatex gloves (size: large)
  • 2 hydrocortisone ointment packets (approximately 1 gram each)
  • 1 3 in. gauze roll (roller) bandage
  • 1 roller bandage (4 inches wide)
  • 5 3 in. x 3 in. sterile gauze pads
  • 5 sterile gauze pads (4 x 4 inches)
  • Oral thermometer (non-mercury/nonglass)
  • 2 triangular bandages
  • Tweezers
  • Emergency First Aid instructions
