Home remedies to cure hangovers

Most of us have been there – waking up after a night of revelry with a pounding headache, queasy stomach, and an overwhelming sense of regret. Hangovers are an unfortunate side effect of indulging in alcoholic beverages. While prevention is always the best approach, sometimes we find ourselves in need of a cure.
Supernutritious suggests these effective home remedies to help alleviate the symptoms of a hangover and get you back on your feet.

1. Hydration, hydration, hydration:

One of the primary causes of a hangover is dehydration. Alcohol is a diuretic, which means it increases urine production, leading to fluid loss. Start your hangover remedy by rehydrating your body. Drink plenty of water, coconut water, or sports drinks to replenish electrolytes. This will help restore the balance in your system and alleviate some of the common symptoms.

2. Nourishing foods:

Eating the right foods can help your body recover from a hangover. Opt for light, easy-to-digest meals that provide essential nutrients. Bananas are rich in potassium, which can help replenish electrolytes. Eggs contain cysteine, an amino acid that aids in the breakdown of acetaldehyde, a toxin produced by alcohol metabolism. Toast or crackers can help settle an upset stomach, while ginger can soothe nausea.

3. Herbal teas:

Certain herbal teas can be a soothing remedy for a hangover. Peppermint tea can help alleviate headaches and reduce nausea. Ginger tea is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and can help calm an upset stomach. Chamomile tea has a calming effect and can help with relaxation and sleep, which is often disrupted after a night of drinking.

4. Vitamin C:

Alcohol consumption depletes your body’s vitamin C levels. Boosting your intake of vitamin C-rich foods or supplements can help reduce the duration and severity of a hangover. Include citrus fruits, bell peppers, leafy greens, and berries in your diet. Additionally, you can try effervescent vitamin C tablets to give your system an extra boost.

5. Rest and sleep:

Rest is crucial for hangover recovery. Alcohol disrupts the quality of your sleep, leaving you feeling groggy and fatigued. Take the time to rest and allow your body to recover. If possible, try to catch up on some sleep or take a short nap during the day. Adequate rest will help you recharge and alleviate some of the symptoms associated with a hangover.
