Caiphus Semenya denies wanting 50% royalties from AKA

by Unathi Balele

Legendary and International Jazz musician Caiphus Semenya has finally broken his silence regarding the drama involving him wanting royalties from the late rapper Kienan AKA Forbes.

Caiphus Semenya was reportedly demanding 50% royalties from two songs AKA sampled without his permission. According to reports by Sunday World, the musician demands 50% of the royalties from two songs that were sampled on his two top-selling albums without getting the 83-year-old musician’s written permission.

Responding to these allegations, Caiphus said it’s absolute rubbish and the reporter does not know what he is talking about.

Caiphus was recently a guest on Nkululeko’s YouTube podcast. Speaking on the issue at hand he said:

“It was sorted out,” he said as he laughed.

“I started Semenya Music when I was 32-years-old. John Levi helped me put my publishing together. Since then I have never, not once negotiated a song,” he clarified.

Caiphus then added that the journalist should have first contacted him and clarified the story before publishing it.

“He just runs and writes nonsense, it’s rubbish,” said the musician.

He added that he was not involved in the negotiations of royalties, and they were sorted out previously.

“His lawyers have never seen me, so who am I going to demand the 50% from?”

Ntate Caiphus Semenya blasts Sunday World’s Ngwako Malatji for LYING that he’s demanding 50% of royalties from AKA for sampling his songs without permission.????
