Prayers and well wishes are being sent to musician and producer Bongani Fassie after he survived a vicious panga attack.

The son of the late singer and activist, Brenda Fassie, spoke to ZiMoja, saying he believes that there is a target on his life and someone wants to see him dead.

Bongani was reportedly attacked by a man in a hoodie at a traffic light in Randburg, Johannesburg, which resulted in a black eye and three deep cuts on his arm.

“I don’t know who the man is. I just saw him come at me with a panga. I was driving with a friend with my window down,” Bongani told ZiMoja. “The guy was aiming for my chest but I grabbed him, tried to disarm him and he butchered my arm. He cut me but I continued to fight.”

Bongani also told the publication that he believes the attempt on his life was a planned assassination. He had received a message saying that he should have died instead of rapper AKA.

Unfortunately, this is not the first physical attack Bongani has experienced. “I was attacked twice about over a year ago. But I don’t wish to play the moments back.”

Bongani shared a video of his injuries on Instagram. The video shows his blood-stained jeans and blood inside and outside of the vehicle in which he travelled. The montage also shows the cuts on his arm and the visible swollen eye while lying on a stretcher. The video then ends with rappers who have passed on – HHP, Flabba, AKA, Costa Titch and Ricky Rick.

“I am not okay. I almost died. I am just glad to have lived to tell the [tale],” he told ZiMoja.

“I will not lie, I am scared for my life, and I don’t know who to suspect at the moment. All I am doing is focusing on my healing and recovery.”
